Can anyone please clarify one of the the measurements in Ed's formula. I can't get hold of karo syrup or corn syrup.
I have dark brown sugar like muscovado or white.
1 c Karo can be subbed with 1 c white sugar and 1/4 c hot water?
Does this mean 1 cup of white sugar dissolved in 1/4 cup of hot water? Then I would use 1/2 teaspoon of that mixture?
Could I use dark brown sugar instead of white?
And just out of interest, why not honey?
Thanks

Edit reason: added extra
Honey can have botulism spores in it - won't hurt adults but babies and small puppies should not be given honey. Stir the sugar and water together and bring to boil (use double boiler if possible) and use the resulting sugar syrup in the quantity the recipe states. Dark brown sugar has mollases in it so the resulting syrup might have a stronger flavour but sugar is sugar.
