I personally do not like the 5 and 7 way combo shots- Corona and Lepto are not required (needed) in all areas, and with a large combo shot like that, you're seriously upping the risk of a vaccine reaction. IF your dog does have a reaction, you'll have no idea what specifically it was from.
If titers are not high enough, you'd have to start from the beginning, as there has been such a lapse since Keiko's 8wk old vaccination. )
First: Weather it is needed or not is my question for Corona and Lepto, What are the chances of getting it if traveling (would you)? If you give all the shots separate how much time should be between them?
Second: What are titers? Are you suggesting that I give three shots (speaking of 5way for example) and do it as if he had never had any?
Parvovirus kills plenty of adult dogs--if people don't treat aggressively.
I would give that pup 2 more vaccines one month apart and then I wouldn't give any more shots w/o titers. I like 2 shots > 12 wks myself, never had a vaccine breakthru with that protocol. I prefer killed vaccine. I'm not too big on coronavirus vaccine, but we need lepto in my area.
Titers are a numerical measurement of level of immunity. They give an idea if
the animal can mount an adequate defense if he is exposed to street (wild type) virus. Basically, it tells you how many "soldiers" he has armed already for these various bugs. How many he has armed already tells you how fast he can muster up more.
Thanks everyone... I am going to go ahead with 2 more 5ways... I would do them apart but #1 they don't appear to have them that way here and #2 I have never had a problem with the 5way.
