"It's often just a mad dash out, pee as they are turning around to dash back to the pups but each trip does get a microsecond longer when they realize no one is messing with their pups that 15 seconds they left."
I betcha that means you strictly allow no one near the pups while the mother does take that 15 seconds off, to reassure her that even 20 seconds might be OK.
I'd leave her do as she wishes. And I would not be walking her on the street where other unknown dogs are walking. No need for her to bring home some bug. Let her enjoy her nesting. I think this is the fun part, for her. As their eyes open and they become more demanding she will look for time away, they will become a chore.

Absolutely!
And I sometimes forget people are not set up like me, my mom and pups have an area that not even my other dogs are allowed to potty in.
Everything is balanced with the mom and what she wants but all things being equal I strive for lots of short breaks. And you have never seen a dog dart outside, do her business and dash back to the pups like a new mom. Heaven help anyone that may be in her path.....LOL
