I have not been on the site in a while. Sorry if this has already been brought up. I searched the forum on the topic but don't find anything. I received this email and thought Leerburg folks may know if this is true. See below email we received from Eagles Up member whom I believe to be a reliable source.
<<<You might be shocked and dismayed to learn that when these dogs are retired, they are snuffed out for their service. It is cheaper to euthanize them than transport them back.
So, two of our Air Force officers are arranging to bring back four of these working dogs -- to include Carlos -- via Mil Air to Baltimore in about 45 days. Would you or anyone you know want to adopt Carlos or any of the other bomb sniffing dogs on this run?">>>

According to this recent article:
None are euthanized now, said Gerry Proctor, a spokesman for Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, where the military's dog adoption program is based.
"All the animals find a home," he said. "There's a six-month waiting list right now for people wanting to adopt. And (the applications) have gone up substantially since the raid."
After the Vietnam War Dog scandal the US Military has made it policy to adopt out their retired dogs. A policy that other government branches have picked up, to include DHS.
