My club is currently 'experienced' helper-less. I'm not willing to work Koenig on new decoy's anymore (for various reasons), so I figured this time would be a perfect chance to work on our blind searches.
Previous weeks, Koenig has been sent around 1 blind, to a helper in blind #2.
Today, he got to searching 3 blinds, and being marked as he rounded the 4th, and straight to me for a tug. I'm pretty proud- that was a MAJOR adjustment to my expectations of him. Granted, we were decoy/sleeve less, so his drive level was substantially lower then when a helper is around, it's all OB at this point. If he can do 4, he can do 6. I didn't try for more simply because I wanted to call it quits while I was ahead, and he was getting tired.
I know I'll need to vary the placement/timing of the reward to keep him checking each blind, rather then just running 5, knowing the decoy awaits in #6, but we've got lots of time.
Kelly, I just want to say congratulations on ALL of your accomplishments with Koenig. (Meant to post in your other thread about getting your BH but was waiting to be able to watch the video -- had computer problems -- and by the time I got the darn thing working again, your thread had slipped my mind.)
To say that you have come a long way with Koenig is putting it mildly. I have followed your progress here on Leerburg, and I am inspired by the love, dedication and energy you have put into your relationship with him. Koenig's lucky day was the day he came into your life, and I know you feel the same way about him.
Ahhh, I DIDN'T get video Ana! Whoops! I'll try next week.
Cheri, Thank you. I really love this dog. My TD is constantly pointing out to the rest of the club how much my dog loves me... which is nice to hear. Yesterday's comment (as I sent him to climb/jump into a tree...lol) was "See, he'll do anything for he- he'll always TRY to do what she's asking." That made me proud, coming from someone who has all the accomplishments that she does. You didn't miss a lot in our BH video. It was U G L Y, but we passed. lol.
We've already got one busted tooth... We don't need anymore!
Currently his grips are pretty good. I'd like to keep it that way. I let him work at our regional helper seminar on hopeful trial helpers..... I did regret that. It was fantastic problem solving work for my dog, (weird sleeve presentations "How DO i bite this??" You could see the wheels turning in his little brindle head!) but I won't do it again till he's a finished dog. Learned my lesson.
