I checked in the morning, and didn't see any black fleas in the water dish. We did this in four places around the apartment.
They are on the dog. The white sheet test showed you flea "pepper" (flea poop), which is actually your dog's blood. The drop of water rehydrates it so you can see the red.
If anything, I just saw some little white things.
Where did you see little white things? Description?

.... vacuumed the whole house! Dog beds are in the wash as we speak (going to have to do 2 rounds, as we like having blankets on furniture he lays on - wife doesn't like dog hair). Once I get all the dog beds clean I'm going to give him a bath with the methods described above and in that thread.
Thanks for the tips! Need to find a Petsmart for some Frontline or Advantage..
Good job!
(You can get the Advantage or Frontline from the vet.)
Any consensus on which is preferable? Going to stop after work tonight and get some.
Wife is vacuuming again tonight while I'm at work. Hoping that + getting Advantage/Frontline which knock these little buggers out!
Connie, I saw little white things (though I was admittadly half alseep) in the soapy water I had put on some shallow plates. I saw someone mention putting soapy water on a shallow dish/bowl and placing a candle in the middle of it, and then leaving this on the floor to supposedly trap fleas! Was hoping my contraptions would catch me some, heh.
Soap in water:
I do use a little dish soap in the water that I deposit hand-picked-off fleas in. Then they sink rather than skate across the surface. (BTW, I like seeing the bassids sink. )

Edit reason: btw
The white things could be flea eggs. They actually look like eggs, just about as small as you can see. Smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Very white.
Got a great deal on a four pack of advantage, and we just got done applying it!
Stay tuned! Going to get another good vacuuming in, and on my weekend do another DE treatment of the house (light light dusting on the carpet, let it sit for an hour, then vacuum).
His paws are looking better btw too! Thanks all for all your advice and suggestions!
Oh, and my wife has renamed the E-Collar from the "Cone of Shame" to the "Cone of Destruction"
Blade is used to it, and doesn't mind running into EVERYTHING in the house! So far nothing of extreme value has suffered in the process, but I wouldn't put it past him. And of course he does it all with his thick tail wagging and beating the walls.
