I have what I hope isn't a real stupid question.
I have a 15 month old GSD female that is going to be ready for her BH the end of Sept. She is extremely food driven.
How do I wean from the food? I have tried, succesfully, going the 45-50 paces before rewarding. I mix up the routine and wondered if I should try, once or twice, doing the entire thing before giving her food. Or just assume that on trial day she will continue to work with no reward.
She gets really pushy for the food when I lenghten the time between feeding, which I hope is a good sign.
Thanks

You need to RANDOMIZE the rewards. That means the dog doesn't know whether it will come after 2 steps or 20.
Also, be sure that you are able to do the entire routine WITHOUT any correction before you trial. People often think they are ready but strange things happen with NO LEASH.
