I have been doing a lot of reading on the k9 nose works. Has anyone had any experience with this? In my area there is no one certified to teach or seminars or competions. I have started to work with my standard schbauzer with this, but would love to hear from others who have done it.
I have dabbled in it. I have done my own nose work game. I live in India and there are no classes around here. I make up my own game.
Here is one, but it is not in HD , so kindly bear with me. I have not had the opportunity to build on it, because of bommi's babies and the competition and all that, but it is a lot of fun.
It is very interesting to the dog and the human. More to the human than the dog because we cant really understand how their noses work. Bommi scent matching
Ramachandran, thanks for your video, it was very helpful. Bommi is beautiful! It is amazing how the dog nose works isn't it?? Thanks again for the video, it was very good.
The holy grail of nosework is what is called Scent matching.
If you can teach your dog to take a scent , remember that scent and look for a match. It is very difficult to teach. because unlike handler scent , explosive, human scent or narcotic scent etc, the target scent is a new scent each time. It can be a perfume, a tomato, a piece of wood, an earthworm, an acid etc etc, but each time it is a new scent. So the dog is forced to learn that remembering the sample is vital to it's success.
I have not taught my Bommi to do that. But if some one can , then it will be a great challenge.
The dog must understand that it has to remember the sample and carry a mental "image" of that scent while comparing it to all the scents available and not pick the scent that has given it a reward before.

Nosework is taking the concepts of drug detection dogs and applying them to pets. The dog must learn 3 odors Sweet Birch, Anise, and Clove. The dog will search in 4 areas inside, outside, vehicles, and containers. There are three levels and the requirement change a little each level. I think I read in the new catalog that Ed is going to be doing some training DVDs with Andrew Ramsey on training for this sport. I am at a seminar this weekend with him. He is great, much better than a lot of the "certified instructors" I have seen and worked with. I am working all 4 of my dogs in the sport. It is great!
