I guess that means eveything except a toy breed is due to die since many if not most dogs out there that show up in shelters have at least one of most of those breeds in them.
No wonder the world is in such a mess, if this is the kind of solutions we offer for dealing with problems. Isn't the human race great?! And we are supposed to be the intelligent ones. <SIGH>
That's pitiful. In the past, I've adopted a GSD, a pit bull, and a Rott from the shelter(not at the same time lol). Sweet, trustworthy dogs. I also adopted a toy poodle mix, he had to go back after he managed to bite everyone in the family within two days. Nasty little turd hopper.
When will we learn to judge by content, not appearance?
This story has been making the rounds, and it appears to be untrue (we can only hope). I am cross-posting this from a Doberman board I belong to. Italics is the person from the Dobe board; bold-face is the reply from the animal control official in the county in question.
"I have seen this on several Dobe boards, and it isn't accurate. This town IS proposing a breed ban, but NOTHING is in effect yet. There is a meeting on Dec. 5th, they are not going to start killing dogs that day. A DPCA Rescue Member confirmed this, also Pinch of Heaven Dobe Rescue in TN personally spoke to the Mayor who said he does not think it will pass at the meeting due to public outcry. Still worth writing POLITE letters/emails. Here is the reply the Mayor sent to my email:"
"Thank you for your note. Your concerns should be directed to the Cumberland County Animal Control Board. The City of Fayetteville is not involved with animal control in our community. A Press Release from the county is included below.
Cumberland County Animal Control does not have a breed ban in place at this time, nor is one set to go into effect on Monday, December 5.
The Animal Control Board met on October 3 and discussed a proposal to limit breeds put up for adoption. The Animal Control Board decided to recommend limiting the adoption of the following breeds:
Rottweilers
American Staffordshire Terriers
Pit bulls
Chows
Presa Canarios
Any mix of the breeds above
The policy has not been implemented at this time and has not been brought before the Board of Commissioners for approval.
The Animal Control Board will meet again December 5 at 6 p.m. in the conference room at Animal Control. Any recommendation from this advisory board would need to be sent to the Commissioners’ Policy Committee and then the Board of Commissioners for approval.
Thanks for the clarification Cheri! I really, really hope it doesn't pass. I have never personally experienced aggression from any of these breeds (except a chow cross with a terrible owner) I hope they see that this plan is extremely flawed and that past bans by other communities have proven to be ineffective in decreasing reported dog bites.
