My mini dachshund gave birth to 10 pups on 12/13. All are doing great, we have to bottle feed the smallest and we started on the goats milk formula yesterday. Over the last few days all the pups have developed a case of the sniffles and sound terribly congested. I called my vet after they started blowing little bubbles out of their noses, he said he could not do anything because they were so young. The next morning, our dapple girl sounded terrible so I took them all to the emergency vet, who also said there was nothing to do but wait it out because they are getting milk in their lungs when they eat. Today is day 3 and they still sound congested and sniffly, is there anything that can help with it? a home remedy, etc? I am worried about pneumonia from aspirating milk in the lungs. Even the little guy has the sniffles and I am sure not to overfeed him.
this link might help, I haven't read it for a while but is in my favorites and rember Ed wrighting about something similar, good luck, and be sure to reply again for help to keep your thread near the top

HI Crystal,
I hope this message finds your pups doing well. I'm really at a loss and can only suggest that you ensure that the pups are draft free and warm.
I think I would try burping them regularly and try and have them move around a bit on the theory that movement would help and perhaps even aid in a productive cough that would bring the stuff up from the lungs.
I'm surprised that two vets couldn't offer you any advice......
Thanks, they are still a little congested but most all of them are sounding better today...finally! I don't know why my vet didn't offer any more advice either, just to make sure they eat and they should be fine. The smallest one is dong well too, he seems to be enjoying the new formula
