Helga is my 19 Month old female doberman. She is a very very friendly and very submissive dog. But has this annoying habit of hogging people.
1)Let us say that I am petting the other dogs, she will come and wedge herself between me and the other dogs.
2) If I am sitting down in my chair, she will come and nudge my hands to pet her. (And to my dismay , I find myself petting her even with out my own knowledge )
3) She will come and lean against my legs when Iam sitting down.
4) When I am lying down on my mat, she will come and lie down right next to me and start nosing my hands to make me pet her.
5) If I dont pet her, she will actually get under my hand and move her head/body back and forth to create relative motion and therefore petting.
6) She will hog any one who comes to visit me too . She is very very friendly and so every one thinks she is cute. I think so too, but some times it is very annoying.
7) If I get angry at her and tell her off, she will walk away with her head held low , but in a few minutes, she will be back to try her luck.
What should I do. I am tired of being her petting serf.
Gambit does this....I've been solving it by physically moving him to a pillow and having him lay down and resume doing what I was doing. If he moves I put him back and resume. When I am done I invite him over for attention.
It's been very effective, if I am petting Ryuk Gambit will now immediatly back off and lay down. When I'm done I drop my hands and open them (his sign it's okay to come and get pet) and he comes to get his attention.
I do permit my dogs to ask for attention but they have both learned that "no means no" at this point. They are permitted to cuddle up to me (both are power snugglers if permited) while I'm sitting if i don't tell them off, but the moment i say "go lay down" they need to stop touching me
Yep, I have five of them at my house all almost too friendly for their own good. We have trained the dogs to go to a selected room when people come over so I can secure them before I let our guest in. We ask our guests to ignore the dogs and usually after a sniff and unresponsive nudge, they lay down across the room with a patheic sigh. However with other guests, the dogs stay in their room until the visitor leaves. While training them, I did a lot of inforcing the Place command until released to get attention while I had a friend sit on the couch and just talk to me.
Dexter will get as close as he can from a choosen person and lean into you. He also has a thing foe toes! He sit a bear feet or will lick toes with great love
