It been cold and I freeze my fingers on hotdog or the get all frozen in one big clump. I have some soft treat but can't handle them with gloves on, they are too small for gloves.
I use dry treat they work fine for drive but dog tend to choke on them.
Today it was a warm -10oC in the riding arena and about 10oC colder outside. I train inside but it get boring fast after a few day. This week was cold around -20oC plus wind chill so that was indoor time.
We use Yummy Chummies or chopped up Red Barn rolls. The Yummy Chummies are somewhat moist- and you can break them into training treat size. We get seconds at the Arctic Paws factory very cheaply, so Yummy Chummies are the most economical treat for us, but they are fairly reasonably priced in most pet stores in N. America. I think most contain wheat, though, if there are allergy issues.
It's -17 F here now, I tend to limit any treat giving to a few good recalls. It's just too cold.
Sheesh! Make me feel like a weenie. I shiver here in Texas because it's getting into the 30's at night. I just posted a question about my dog wearing a sweater while tracking because she shivers.
I totally cheat when it's this cold and stay inside doing alot of hiding treats, learning new tricks, playing fetch in the basement and about 15 short training OB sessions a day. I had frostbite on my fingers about a year ago so I have to be very careful out in the cold.
