Ok have a question for those with intact males, Hank seems to be having issues again.
A month ago Hank surprised us with a puddle under him when he was sleeping in a chair. Since he's 17 months and hasn't had a accident since he was a little pup in the house, we took him to the vet. He was also 'straining' for BM's and would get a erection. When he peed it looked kind of like a a sprinkler (on-off-on-off) as well
They took a urine sample and didn't find anything but then got him 'aroused' but no 'sample' and the vet found white blood cells and semen in his urine.
We did not take a blood sample but figuring that he might have a prostate infection she gave us a 2 week dose of baytril (1-1/2 tablets of the 'cheweable'). Well we finished the series (no fun for my fingers, and I've never seen a dog spit a hotdog out.) He seemed to be better but once again started straining last week for his BM's (he's on a raw diet, gets chicken backs and breast meat with some added liver). At the vet she thought that it was a diet issue (she's not up to speed on raw) and suggested a nutritionist. She did not want to put him back on baytril because he's so young. So I'm not sure what to think.
This morning he had another 'accident' in one of my chairs and is licking himself a whole bunch.
I have always thought he seems be supercharged on testosterone, acting like a punk teenager and I've seen him 'leak' the white stuff when he gets the chance to sniff females (even fixed ones). I don't let him try to mount anyone but it's like he looses control of his backend when he gets around him.
I have entertained the thought of breeding him (and someone has shown an interest) but that takes second fiddle to his health.
Any thoughts from those who have dealt with intact males?
Thanks

I'd like to know if there was a re-check after the Baytril protocol. Also, was the urine cultured or just the urinalysis?

What do the poops look like after the straining? Dry like constipated, or soft like a gut problem? Has he ever been checked for whipworms?
Also, this too is another thread: "he's on a raw diet, gets chicken backs and breast meat with some added liver)" .... that's not a complete raw diet, unless you are simplifying it for typing. I see no fish oil and E, no protein-source variety in the added muscle meat, and no produce (small but not optional, IMO).
PS
Please don't bring up breeding on a thread about any other topic, because believe me, the breeding subject will completely take over.

Thanks Connie, noted and will not mention 'it' again in this thread.
They did urinalysis after the baytril and it was clear, but no culture was done. Hiss poops look fine, no extreme in either direction, nice short little logs (I can tell when there's too much bone now). The raw was a summary, I try to change up his protein sources a lot, and he gets some veggies, but not too much, when he eats too much ruff-age he can clear out the living room, and I have learned car gas is the WORST in the winter time!
He hasn't had a worm treatment since about a year ago, and they did do a stool sample last visit, and I assumed they tested for that (my wife took him in last week) but no mention of parasites.
Could this be an overactive prostate or prostate infection? So strange for such a young pup.
I'm going to give you what little I know, but take it with a grain of salt 'cuz I'm an accountant not a medical person :-)
Not sure what you mean by an "overactive" prostate, but an enlarged prostate can become fully blocked and he would be unable to pee. If he's peeing like a "sprinkler" it could be an enlarged prostate that is not fully blocked. Dribbling can be a cause of an enlarged prostate. Sexual maturity can cause weird pee/pre-ejaculation (the white stuff) that he may outgrow once his hormones get mature. Neutering can be an option if he's very sexual and you don't really like it. It probably won't stop the mounting but that can be stopped as it occurs. At least you won't have all the leakage and licking other dogs pee, causing foaming and drooling (gross!).
You said he was also straining when pooping - that could be RAW diet related. Too much bone can cause hard poops. Also, he could have underlying bladder issues. I would definitely recheck your RAW diet and make sure you he is getting what he needs from RAW. (I feed RAW, so I am in no way bashing it).
