Thanks everyone, for your input. Bob, your more detailed feedback about "getting on" vs. "being on" really clicked for me. Makes total sense. I don't think I will go the mousetrap route (we have 3 cats who love that chair and just might get traumatized by that ) but I'm sure I can find something that will make getting on the chair uncomfortable and unrewarding for her.
In retrospect, it would have been a "Kodak moment" if I had had a camera handy... although he didn't see it, my husband was chuckling about it all day: she looked as comfy as a pea in a pod, and was totally enjoying the warmth of the fire on a chilly morn.
I think part of keeping a dog off of the furniture is to create a comfortable spot for them on the floor. So as you make the furniture unrewarding, there is also the proper place that is available to her.
