My personal opinion at this time is that the PAGER feature is not that importan an issue. Ten years ago I spent $995.00 on a Tri Tronic Pro 100A - this had the good-dog button. I played with it for a long time and was not convinced that it was something that was important to me (I have it in the same catagory as clickers)
While the transmitter for the DOGTRA 1100NC is not waterproof it is water resistent.
I think the waterproof issue is more important for field trial dog trainers that are constantly working around water. If they drop the transmitter in the lake its nice to know it MAY work when its rescued from the water.
Thanks Lou,
I didn't realize you were working with pre-trained dogs. What you say makes more sense now. I'm training a 5 month old pup and don't intend to introduce the collar until she knows exactly what I expect of her and she performs 100% when she is motivated.
I agree completely with your two choices for "100% ALL DAY EVERY DAY" commands. I've been proofing my 2.5 year old on both those since I got the ecollar. Now I can spy on his down stays from around corners or through windows, and do a correction immediately if he thinks about moving. Impossible with the lead.
As far as bitework, I just want him to bite 100%. An out would be nice, but not as important to me.
SHARON:
I don't use the page feature, since my long term goal is off lead obedience. I don't want a silent recall or silent anything else really. I'm traing so that on or off lead (even electric ones ) he obeys.
I hope that makes sense.
Originally posted by sharon g: How important do you think it is to have the paging feature on the Dogtra collar? I've been using the tone on my TT for the recall. But the 1100 is only 300.00 and the 1200NC is 350.00. Since my dog is collar conditioned, and I've never had this feature available, it may not be worth the extra money. Also, the 1100 transmitter is not water resistant, correct?
The real answer . . . "it depends." I find the pager feature essential. I use it for a silent recall with both the police service dogs and the SAR dogs.
I think if I was doing field work I'd use it instead of a whistle.
But if you don't have a need for a recall or moving your dog around at a distance you can live without it.
As to waterproofness. Only you can tell if you need this feature. If you ever plan to do any work on the water or from a boat, I'd get one of the waterproof models.
And finally take a look at the Dogtra website. The prices have dropped $40-$50 each!!!
Lou Castle has been kicked off this board. He is an OLD SCHOOL DOG TRAINER with little to offer.
I want to thank everyone for their input to my e-collar question. I believe that I have the information that I need to make an informed decision. I guess the bottom line now is to save the needed amount of money.
With the exchange rate to Canada and the shipping, it is quite a chunk.
Well that's the reality.
