This is such a sad story for me on a bunch of different levels. I hope the fact that this dog ended up with a bit of publicity and compassion from the vets treating him, will set this family straight on just how precious these souls are.
On a side note: Guns are very much an issue in this situation but I'll bet the laws governing illegal possession, illegal discharge, armed robbery, not to mention any licencing or registration charges and most likely underground purchase, should the guy get caught, will be the first thing plea bargained away, simply because he chose to use it on a dog instead of a human.
All the possible charges currently available, should they choose to apply them, would have this guy put away for a long time. But knowing our justice system, no one got hurt so perhaps a little cruelty to animal charge involving a slap on the wrist, will probably be what the guy walks away with.
We'll see, but I'm sure glad the pup got a chance and sounds like he's doing well.
CJ i agree but, in this economy a lot of people don't have an extra $3000+ i know i don't. Hopefully donations will help with costs. although if convicted the offender(s)should pay all restitution (they probably don't have a dime)and receive a long prison sentence. you don't hear to many stories like the above. most degenerates won't break in if they hear a dog.
Would love to see the person responsible chipping away at rocks to pay for this. I think we'll be lucky with a break and enter charge and with the stuff being recovered, the guy will probably walk. This is where our problems are.
And yes, I sure hear you about the cost and was in no way discounting their ability to come up the money. It would take a lot for us too, but for the daughter-in-law to have to fight so hard for this dog and say:
"My in-laws are Asian and they don't really believe in saving animals".
To not even have the will to try after what their pup faced, went through and survived simply because "they don’t believe in saving animals" made me think it was a belief or inconvenience thing that they'd rather not put the effort and, yes, the money into.
God Bless the young girl for being such a strong advocate on his behalf. I'm simply hoping the in-laws are able to understand their daughter-in-law's compassion.
