Before I head off to the vet, I thought I would see what suggestions I could get from you fine folks. I'm not sure if Jethro's shake outs are only stress relievers, or if there is something possibly bothering him in his ears.
I have never looked in his ears very carefully. I sniffed each one and didn't smell anything out of the ordinary. I would like to take a closer look. What should I be looking for? What is the best way to take a look?

Don't introduce moisture to a healthy ear.
Get a flashlight and look inside.
Do you see inflammation toward the canal or reddish stripes coming out of the canal onto the flap? Do you see coffee grounds? Gray slime? Black exudate? Raggedy edges on the ear leather? Bumps on the inside of the flaps?

Bumps on the inside of the flaps?
What are those bumps anyways? Gunner has them too.
Possibly external parasites/mites.
Debris from the ear should be examined under a microscope. A scraping is taken, too, where some skin cells are lifted (kinda like with sticky tape, or possibly a dull blade like a butter knife) and examined.
