What are the best books that I can purchase that talka bout Raw feeding? Any good online sites?
I would be using Red/White meat, bones, organs, veggies, and some glucosamine. I'm a little stumped at how much I should feed my dog, he is overweight by 5-10 lbs, so should I go by his ideal weight, I think 85 lbs, or his current weight, 95 lbs, on the amount he should be fed? He is older and pretty active, at least 1 mile walk/run a day with 1 hour of ball/obedience.
Right now he is fed around 2 1/2-3 scoops, each scoop is 1 1/4 cup, of kibble a day. On his bag of dog kibble it says u to 4 scoops! If I use a lot of treats one day I skip a meal. I have also started brushing his teeth with some baking soda and water, I do it about once a week.

You'll want to look for sourcing first. For example, can you get chicken backs cheap? And you start slow, working up to the 1-3/4 to 2 pounds or so a day for 85 pounds of senior dog. Lots of reading first:
Thanks Connie. I was going to purchase those books soon but wanted to know if there were better ones out there. Sometimes feeding Raw feels really complicated then other times it seems really simple. I guess its because you can do it do many ways. I'm going to visit all the local butchers to see if they sell chicken backs or anthing esle. Put an request to join a Yahoo group, South Eastern Natural Rearing. There are people located in Atlanta, I think.
I pay $12 (.30 lb) for a 40 lb case of backs. I buy from a restraunt wholesaler. I live in CT.
Tracy is right that most things are more costly in Hawaii.. but see if you can find a wholesale source. They will have the best prices. Maybe even a restraunt that will order extra (they all use backs for stock)& sell to you.
Are you on Oahu? Chinatown, down in Honolulu, is by far your best bet. There are several meat markets down there, and if they know you are looking for backs, they will hook you up. I used to have a deal with one of the vendors, and he would have a bag of backs in the cooler for me on the first Tuesday of every month. I would tell you the name, but I can't read Mandarin. I can't recall exactly how much I paid, but it was cheap.
