Duane, how is the BB doing? My son and I have often wondered how our bitch would do in a serious job, she loves a challenge and a wrestle, I know Will has had several BB flake on the bite work, but I do know of one or two handlers that have got to SchH3 with BB's, and so am curious if they ever do well in that line of work in your experience?
The BB is being brought along very slowly. He was a rehome and had no prior formal training until two months ago. He was spotted in TD's boarding facility by a movie contractor, so we initially started started him in defense drive to get some reactivity, as by nature he's a big ole (147lb) baby.
We started with him backtied to a fence and used blinds and noisemakers to get him to stand his ground and revier. In just a few sessions, he would do the work required by the filmmakers. We then relieved the tension and started working traditional prey drive to introduce tug games, in hopes that his owner will continue with his protection work and advance him in the other phases of SchH, as well. He has a long way to go, and I'm not sure how enthusiastic his handler is, but he's got all of the potential to do all phases.
He tugs like 147 lbs of serious dog. If he ever does protection work, he's definitely gonna be a HUGE challenge for the decoys! I'm now going to have nightmares about being slung around at the end of a jute sleeve!
