We went by the Kennel today to take a look at the puppy. She is 4 weeks old and one of the bigger pups in the litter of 9. We gave them a deposit and will pick her up in a couple weeks.
Keith, it looks like you're going to be getting a very nice working line Lab. As far as her color, as others have said here, there will be a variety of heat tolerance levels between dogs of the same color, same breed, etc. The important thing is to know your dog and take appropriate steps to ensure they stay comfortable.
I've owned four black Dobermans, and each one was different. One just wilted in the heat from the time she was a puppy. (And I mean anything over about the low 70s LOL.) I was concerned but vet checks assured me she was healthy. On walks or hikes on a hot, sunny day, she would literally drag me to the nearest shade tree and just plop down. I always carried plenty of water for her.
I have one now who is more tolerant of heat but if we're playing in the yard, she doesn't hesitate to stop and lay down for a few minutes when she needs a rest.
I have another one who does indeed get overheated in hot, humid weather, but he doesn't have the sense to know it. I have to keep a close eye on him and decide when it's time to quit; otherwise, he'd just run and play till he dropped.
