I actually did have my foam flip flop wedged in the crack and a hammer in my hand with the thought that the flip flop would some how protect the window if my aim was out, but thought a few seconds ahead and decided against it
Is it still tight to open and close?
PVC or wood? If wood then you could probably sand/plane it a bit to fit then re prime and paint.
Measure the window top left to bottom right from corner to corner and compare the other side top right to bottom left corner to corner. That will tell you if the window is square if the measurements are identical. Do the same with the inside of the frame.
Hard to say how much "slight" is. If it's now working then great.
WD40 and PVC are both Petroleum products and the WD40 could damage the PVC over time. I doubt the "elbows" (hinges) were frozen up if it's working freely now. I think you would feel a drag when you moved the window.
I shut it for a few minutes and then had a bit of a struggle to open it again, looking at it while it's open itlooks like one of the screws in the caseing is on the squint a bit, so that might be the problem??
I think I will have to take them out and see if I can screw it back in again true.
Thinking back, the first time I realized it was stuck was after some continual heavy rain, and now after a week of hot weather I suppose it could have warped again - I have also noticed the decking in the garden has lifted on one side today, this really was Jerry built!
I am eventually going to have to get a window fitter in aren't I??
Are there scrape marks on the window from the screw? If not then that's not the problem.
From you comments about the rain I'm guessing it's a size or installation issue as David commented. Can you get the "window fitter" to come and just give an opinion and estimate? That may be worth the trouble.
We're just guessing here without actually seeing it.
No, no scraping, I think you and David are right, it must have been a botch job when they were fitted, I will ring round and get a few quotes for a consult, or maybe Tanith will come up with some people who might exchange a donation for a quick look-see
Thanks for your help and patience Bob, and to everyone else that posted - I appreciate it.
