i would like to add another dog to my family, preferably a GSD. male, at least 6 years old, up to 10 is fine if healthy.mellow temperment.
neutered male, a dog who gets along with other dogs(i have a female bc and a female bcx)cats horses and chickens.we don't have kids but dog must be tolerant of kids in case any visit, or god forbid, we have grandchildren sooner rather than later. i am not going to get rid of a dog just because there is a new kid on the scene. children around here are expected to treat my dogs with respect, but i don't want to take a chance on a dog who doesn't like kids.(not that i blame him!)
must be housebroken(not going though that again!) and like going on walks.
we do not have a fenced yard. our dogs are outside sometimes unsupervised(we live on a 17 acre farm) and are expected, and do, stay on the property. they are only out when we are at home though. most of the time, they are in the house with us. this will be an indoor dog.but we can't have a dog who runs.
i do not expect a trained watchdog or guard dog. i expect that size, breed, and a nice loud bark will be sufficient for protection purposes(that's what our old GSD did, although the one time i was threatened he became very protective.)
i'm keeping an eye on the rescues.but if anyone knows someone who has had a change of circumstances in his or her life that necessitates giving up their beloved GSD, we could give him a good home.
i realize that these are very specific requests, and we have been keeping watch for about a year. problem with rescues is when they get a dog like this, the fosters usually fall in love with him and poof-he's not available(this has already happened twice! given the quality of the dogs, i can't blame them!)
i should add, the reason we cannot take a younger dog is that we may be going out of the country in 9-10 years for a year long sabbatical, and i do not want to leave dogs behind.
Hi Barbara! If you are considering a female at all, please private message Duane http://leerburg.com/webboard/profile.php?user_id=19813 aside from being the wrong gender, he knows of one that might fit the bill perfectly good luck on your search!
The female may be a bit far away for you then I am in South Dakota and have some experience with a German Shepherd Rescue in Clear Lake Iowa. Is that anywhere close to you?
