Will Your opinion is taken with great regard I know it is improper to turn this thread into a KATZ SMASHING but HEY Why not. I would never take the advice of someone so totally into THY SELF as Mr. Katz. Although I met some really great people over there his site offers no benefit to anyone with working knowledge of dogs. Leerburg offers so much GOOD information and allows us to throw ideas out there with out hesitation. Any advice I have ever received either from posting or private has been right on. Yes sometimes things get very blunt but that is the way it should be. If you can't accept honest answers then you should never ask the question. Ok I won't go into further detail about this. As far as e-collar goes Lou has the edge and I would trust his info on the subject. That book by the way is a really good thing to have. You can use it to start fires if you run out of newspaper or in the bathroom if you run out of? SHAME ON ME
P.S. What exactly is the secret ? I am still trying to figure that out.
The *secret* is...when you discover you have been taken and have bought a high priced book that holds no *secret* for you, and you send it back, thereafter you are on Mr. Katz's *list*.
As to his forum...if you are an *idiot dog owner or trainer* you can post there. If you know anything about training and disagree with Mr. Katz in any way, shape or form, (as like the way he personally treats people), you are forever booted out...which btw, was the best thing that ever happened to me, because I quit wasting my time over there.
Carl Im assuming that your dog already had an idea of what come meant in some situations. The danger in the way you did your training is that it could have had the opposite effect. Thats no good. In those situations it can get bad enough that every time the dog hears come he takes off. This can be worked through but it takes a lot of time. And why cause uneccesary stress. If you want to further your OB with your e-collar find a trainer in your area who works with them a lot. With my clients who want to use e-collars. I will have them put the collar on the dog for a week before they ever recieve any stimulation. to help avoid the situation that Kevin was talking to you about. Be careful though to never leave the collar on for more than 10 hrs a day. It can cause damage if left on to long. Take it off when you are not with your dog. Like when he is home alone or crated. But have the collar available as soon as you come home. Collar goes on before anything else happens.
Hope this helps a little.
If you know everything you cant possibly learn something new.

Mike this is the type of information I am looking for. I will follow up with Lou's information. I use this Collar very sparingly when it comes to corrections. I do not want the collar to have a negative impact with my GSD or any other dog for that matter.
Sie mussen erste lernen den der hunde ist einfach machen.
Alberto's "rules" of use of the electric collar can also be read in Adam Katz's book "Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer" on page 160 - word for word.
Strange how he and this Adam Katz dude agree word for word, isn't it? Almost like Alberto is just posting passages from somebody else and passing them off as his own.....
