Just recently past BH with some very nice focused healing.
Ever since my rotty pupp was eight weeks old used savaloy (hot dog) for his training treat, using left leg and hand lure for just about all of dogs training exercises.
As dog got older his food drive got stronger, so I would increase size of reward for a job well done, this worked great for months ,also still using lures. At certain times his work drive would decrease, after watching Michael Ellis advance conceps in motivation I stated trying sardines, peanut butter ,chicken skin, these different foods would put my dog in a different state of mind where he would move faster ,down quicker, recall like a jet plane.
As the BH was now six weeks away I did not attempt to cut down his treats I actually increased them .What I did do was take the lure hand outside the dogs head with food in it where it would be swinging naturally because my dog was an expert at watching the side of my face I did not have a problem.
Day of competition no food in my hands ,this method worked very well for me.
One thing that a lot of people won't agree with is my dog is allowed to sit near the kitchen table when we are eating and gets to taste everything, I think this has helped his food drive imensely.
My rottweiler is 46 kilo lean ,18 months and also has a very good fitnes programme.
