The students of TR also use pound dogs. They do a quick pass over with marker work and are primarily compulsion.
Your dog, no mater age or breed will work primarily with a pinch or E-collar. I understand it's more e-collar work today.
I live in St.Louis and I've seen quite a few of their students at AKC OB events and Schutzhund trials and was not impressed with the attitude of the dogs. JMO of course.
Like "any" school of any sort there will be people that do well and others that will suck their whole lives. It's as much about YOU as it is the school.
If I had the means I would travel all the way to the ME school!! Again, JMHO!
TR teachers are often times advanced students.
TC was started by a TR graduate.
To be honest I'm still flipping back and forth between schools. I wasn't comfortable with the amount of compulsion work in the TR program. The class I viewed was with young puppies and there were a few yipes from pinch collars. At that age, using a prong strikes me as laziness to motivate the dog. The class was also very long for puppies IMO, even with a short break in the middle. You could see puppies that were just "done".
I may go to TC. I hear nothing but good things about them and I've got enough time left on my GI bill to go to both if I decide to go to TR later. Not having to arrive with a puppy is a big plus.
