My 8month old GSD has had a bad bout of Pano for the past 3 weeks. I have been told no walking try to keep him quiet. Yeah RIGHT!!!
He is limping badly, his right front leg sore. The X-rays came back positive for Pano. The other legs have it too, but may or may not become symptomatic.
We haven't been out except for car rides. I know he is stir crazy. I do some commands that don't involve walking. He would run on 3 legs! I'm afraid by the time I can get back to training, he'll be very hard to handle.
I sure feel you and your young guy Carol. It's hard enough keeping an adult Shepherd down let alone a pup.
No walking at all hey. That is tough. A slow, controlled 10 - 15 minute walk can do wonders, when they're full of energy but hurting along with it. And it keeps up your training, especially in teaching them the self control.
I also second the swimming if that's possible. Drive him to a lake or big, slow, lazy river. Just off the shore on a long line.
Or maybe just take him for a picnic type outing. Outside, away from the four walls of home. Grab a nice shade tree and teach him to catch treats. Laying down and you gently just toss them too him. Maybe up it to a ball if he's good at it.
Anything to do with the head. Can you teach him to hold things in his mouth? What about balancing something on his nose until you give the release? I got Vince a big beach type ball for indoors. I'd put him in a sit and he learned to just bounce it back to me.
Just a little set back, I'm sure you guys will back at it in no time.
Sorry, I just saw your post. Thanks for some ideas.
Unfortunately, we went through almost 5 weeks of Pano in the right front. Then a 2 day break and now the left front has started!
His episodes are obvious. He has trouble even walking, and his once voracious appetite is off. Poor thing. By the time we get back to our normal schedule, he will be all grown up...LOL
He has good drive but not hyper. So he can relax. And that he is doing!!
