Could anyone recommend a trainer in the L.A./Orange County, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> California area? This is our delimma. We have a male dobi, just turning 1 year this month. We have had him since 3 months of age, have been doing Ob training using Ed's tapes. To make a long story short, at 11 months old it's like his hormones have started kicking in and he is not listening to commands, when told to do a down, he barks and tries to nip at our hands as we correct him with the prong collar. The stronger the correction, the stupider he acts. He also is now loosing self control when he encounters other dogs. Again, when given a correction, he sounds like were killing him, but still turns nipping at our arms. Obviously, we are not getting our point across. Have read all of Ed's articles on the subject. We feel our next step is an e collar and a professional. By the way, this all started while enrolled in the local dog OB school. That trainer recommened having him fixed and using spray bottles. I was not impressed with her training techniques, and at this point don't think fixing and water bottles are the answer. Good dog in all other areas, is in a very disciplined enviroment. Any suggestions?
Portia,
If you're looking for an e-collar trainer then you'd be hard pressed to find someone better than Lou Caste. He frequents this forum but you can also reach him through Lou Castle's Site
I also know a good non-ecollar trainer. PM me if interested.
At 8 to 10 months, male dogs testosterone levels peak. They start to decrees somewhere around 11-14 months. Your dog is at maximum hormone influence. Think about humans and their actions as their hormones reach maximum levels!
I have a Bouvier male in the same situation as far as the hormone issue. He also is not thrilled with grooming and Bouviers need it regularly! The food treats works very well though!!
