We used to use a few drops of chloramphenicol (a liquid antibiotic used in poultry) on a lick granuloma. It is soooooo vile it usually curbed the behavior if we got it right away before it became on obsession.

Edit reason: too fast typing -spelling correction
liquid chloramphenicol! I'm not sure you can buy that anymore --- can you? That was one great drug for mastitis and calf diarrhea. We had a fabulous home-brew with that as the active ingredient, along with Vit. C and B-12. Back in the "shotgun" era of medicine, it was so fun!

The "good old" days had some pretty un-good parts ..... my mother's father died from blood poisoning from a simple cut just before penicillin became available. I believe it had been discovered, but wasn't widely known yet.
I broke a Dobie that had an ink pen addiction with it, too. Filled a cap of a pen with it and left it enticingly on the coffee table. Came home and the cap was off, pen had been moved a couple of feet and Shazam was foaming at the mouth. NEVER touched another pen as long as he lived. When I say it is VILE, I mean it!

Did you take a teeny weeny taste? I did try a molecule of EMT gel after my dog's reaction. It's horrible, but the med in Douxo Pads (I tried a molecule of that too when I saw my dog's face after he licked it briefly) has a slight edge.
