When would you reccomend using an E collar? ok well it sounds really tempting i mean my dog DOES know the meaning of NO and he does understand what is right and what is wrong but does he always do whats right? NO lol he will know a specific thing is wrong like chewing the on couch i will catch him in the action then he STOp right away then he will sneak and do it again i think he just is not scared of getting in trouble. what kinda dog or things is this collar good for?
Dogs do destructive behavior for many reasons. A dog can associate attention from you for chewing on the couch. Is the dog bored? Teething? Or is he/she demanding some undue attention? If your dog feels that it needs to draw attention, a scolding is worth doing. And sadly most are willing to do. As some have written, prevention is going to be your best defense. A crate for when you are not home. Or leash the dog so that it may be forced to follow you around the house.
An e-collar requires great timing, and you may mess things up. Now don't get me wrong, they work great if you know what your doing. All you need to do is train your dog that he is going to get in trouble (stimulated) for leaving the couch alone.
I think if you spend your “quality time” doing obedience, rather than nagging your dog to be good he/she may learn to exhibit the behaviors you desire.
