OMG! Well, it sounds like the pit bull was doing the best it could, standing guard outside the door of the room where the baby was crying.
IMO the mother's intelligence should be questioned, too, for leaving this idiot guy in charge of the child in the first place. I'm sure this wasn't the first indication she had of his incompetence.

Sounds to me like both the humans are stupid and the dog the intelligent one.
Many (I won't say how many) years ago I babysat for one of our neighbors (a canine officer). He used to say that the only reason they needed a human babysitter was that the dog couldn't dial the phone. He was kidding of course but it was almost true, LOL
