Otherwise, all photos should be linked to, not embedded.
So if you have any on a PhotoBucket-type account, it's easy to link us. As Bryan says, on Facebook, you must be careful to make it public because there are several members here who don't do Facebook so would not be able to see them if a login was required.
Otherwise, all photos should be linked to, not embedded.
Connie, just for clarification, when you say that photos should be linked rather than embedded, does that mean that you'd prefer to see a URL that takes you to a photo instead of an image displayed in the thread using img tags? Or is there a way to actually insert an image file into the forum and that's "embedding?"
I've run few forums and understand the bandwidth usage and storage capacity impact to hosting an image on the forum host but I don't think using img tags to display them in a post from another host has any real impact other than potentially cluttering up a thread with images.
I want to be sure I'm following the site guidelines and I'm concerned that using img tags to display a pic from another host like facebook, et al may be in violation of the rules.

Yes, it means a link to a photo-hosting site rather than an image embedded (showing) in your post here.
The exceptions are the intro/bio, and the memorial, explained above.
It used to be partly bandwidth usage and storage capacity, but now it's mainly cluttering up threads, and in particular photos that are posted so large that they force scrolling to the right on a lot of computers. It means a mod has to follow them around, either PMing to the poster or actually changing the embedded image to a URL.
This is more of a time-absorber than might be expected, with folks PMing us that a photo is extending text lines to double the screen width and so on, Also, of course, there's the "quote" thing, that can make a whole stack of big photos repeat and repeat until entire pages are taken up with photos and its duplicates.
Small sig pics are allowed, of course. (They are not replicated in a quote.)
Bottom line is that links to your photos are requested, except for two in Bio and one in Grieving.
Thank you for bringing it up! Every now and then it's good to explain for new folks.
Thanks for the clarification and for splitting this off into its own thread. I didn't mean to hijack the other.
Makes perfect sense. I know how easy it is for a image to get posted up at 3000px width and completely throw off the text in all the other posts since it tweaks the width on everything.
Did I miss a sticky somewhere that explained this? I looked for one but could find it... maybe my search skills are suspect

No, it's explained in Bio and in Memorial, but this board started long before ePictures were as common as they are now.
So ... we just explain it every now and then. Also, some old-time regulars let us know via PM when we need to go change some pix to links and PM the poster.
