"Dr. Suess was a neighbor of ours." Wow. I had to log in when I read that! That's like living in Mr. Rogers' neighborhood! PS IMHO, he was one of the great philosophers.
It was cool. His license plate was "CAT HAT." His first wife also wrote children's books and used a friend of our family's Bassett Hound in one of her books (forgot the name).
Our top two this year were:
The Santa Clause &
A Christmas Story
Honestly, this year I barely saw the second movie. This was the first year we've gotten our kids to all watch it after they were mentally scarred by the tongue on the pole scene when they were smaller. I mostly watched their reactions. Owen laughed himself right out of his chair when poor Randy couldn't put his arms down in the snowsuit and ran around quoting "It's a Major Award!" for the rest of the weekend
A little late on this one, just getting a chance to catch up.
I'm a sucker for the ancient time movies - "Spartacus" and "Ben Hur" being among my favorites. They seem to always come out around Christmas time.
We watched a cute 2012 movie called "The Real St. Nick". I'd watch that again.
It's not Christmas if Bob hasn’t watched "A Christmas Story" at least twice and I hear him laughing just as hard each time. We both get a kick out of "Bad Santa". Kind of like South Park with the need for kiddy discretion though.
No New Year's movie coming to mind. Most good Christmas stories seem to have the promise of changed lives for a renewed and wonderful year ahead but don't really get into that next week.

Edit reason: change wonderful life to Christmas Story, he watches it, not me, lol
