Being such a young puppy, I would think you might help his stability by exposing him to lots of new experiences and desensitizing him to his triggers/fears. With the upright posture and waving tail, even with the intimidating posture of the tester, I'd be willing to wager that he just grows out of it as he becomes more wordly. Keep in mind, though, with his boldness, this pup may always need strict supervision and definitely enough training to keep his butt busy.
Just me; I'd like to see the test repeated at least once or twice after they're a couple of weeks older. That being said, I'm not familiar with Volhard and I don't know their target age. I prefer multiple visits and observing pups myself to standardized testing.
I would add that "FOR ME" the umbrella test alone would make me walk away. If I test a litter and even one pup shows fear or avoidance reaction I walk away.
Can it be worked with? Quite possibly but that's a behavior I have no desire to work with. I prefer a puppy that is completely full of it's self and a NO FEAR tattoo on it's head.
