OK, I actually read it, but I quit when I got to this:
"Additionally, most of the time his birds were permitted to fly freely within his cells and because of the great number of birds he kept, his cell was dirty. Stroud’s personal hygiene was also reported as gruesome."
I had never heard about personal hygiene so bad as to be described as "gruesome."
I guess it's not widely known unless you're on the internet ..... isn't this stuff in newspapers?
Maybe it's not.
I honestly don't think it is, at least not to any great extent. And remember newspapers are closing down left and right. My own home town newspaper is gone; now it's online only.
I believe consumer awareness about pet nutrition issues is growing, though slowly. I think we are still at a stage where one has to actively seek out the information; it's just not widely disseminated yet. But I can walk down the aisle of the local big-chain pet supply store and see premium brands of food and treats that weren't there a couple years ago.
I couldn't even begin to place a value on all of the information about dog nutrition (and lots of other stuff!) that I've learned through the collective knowledge and experience of the board members here. But had I not been looking for a Herm Sprenger prong collar one day, I never would have known about Leerburg.
I know many people who own dogs, love their dogs, and would never intentionally feed them anything harmful, but they truly don't know any better, yet.
And I think my dogs are going to love Kristin's homemade sweet potato treats! When you think about it, it really is easy to make healthy, inexpensive treats ourselves.
