I ordered the tape today. Looking forward to it. Do you need to have the first tape in order to have the retrieve tape work?
My dog has been trained very similar (if not the same) as what is described. All his rewards come from making a deal for his toy.
I plan on getting the drive building tape but, I just couldn't afford both right now.
Although I know some might say that I should have gotten the first one now and the retrieve second.
But, since his training has been done very similar I thought it might work out.
Thanks.
Cindy
There is no short cut to good training. I seriously doubt that you set the foundation correctly. Sorry to give you that bad news but you should have got the drive tape first.
Ed:
Yeah, but, you know there is more than one way to train. There are alot of good trainers and alot of different ways. So, I wouldn't ever say "foundation was not set correctly."
I think the best way of training is taking a little bit from everyone and see what works for your particular dog.
I have been to many, many seminars with different people - top competitors and have been able to take bits and pieces and use them. Some things work for my dog and some don't.
Happy training. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I have the drive tape and I really like it.
I haven't found much feedback on the retrieve tape.
Anybody have it? How did you like it, did you find it useful?
Erin
I cannot comment on what Cindy did or did not do (I don't know her) and this post is not directed to her but to new trainers. One of the most common mistakes new trainers make is to bounce around different training methods rather than settle on one. They go to a seminar and come home all excited, then next month they go to another seminar and come home and apply methods from that trainer and on an on. When in fact they would be better advised to settle on one program. As they gain experince they they can discriminate. But if they did a good job picking their mthod there will not be a lot of discriminate about. I have not found a better sport trainer than Bernhard - but then I have only been around the sport since 1974. No American trainer has ever taken a dog as RANK as Itor and brought him to the level Bernhard has. So what I am saying is - pick your trainer and training method and you will not be too far off the ball.
