Hi!
I'm Anna and I'm 15. I've had German Shepherds my entire life and one of them was the most amazing dog ever. Her name was Riva. My dad purchased her when she was about a year old. (I was 5 at the time) She had gone through basic Schutzhund training, and was very loyal, obedient and gentle with me and my sisters. (Who were 8 and 1 at the time) She lived a long and happy life, and in 4-H her and I won over 20 different awards in one year.
In late December (2012) I noticed she was acting strange and sick and by the end of January she had to be put down due to irregular heart beat and a nervous system disorder. She was barely functional. I lost my best friend that day.
And now I have a 1 year old male German Shepherd named Zak...who is a completely different ball game. He's rambunctious, dominant and he thinks he's still a small puppy, even though he is over 100 pounds and standing on his hind legs he's over 5 feet tall.
The first picture is of my previous dog, Riva and the second is of my new one, Zak.
Riva looks like she was a darling, gentle lady- such a beautiful face and very expressive eyes. I am sorry for your loss, but she will always be with you in your heart and memories.
Zak looks like he's a lot of fun to be around. He's a very handsome fella, and I hope you both have many, many happy years together.
Welcome to the Board, Anna! I'm so sorry to hear about your loss of Riva. She was indeed a very beautiful girl, and I know firsthand what it's like to lose a very special dog that was a best friend, as well.
Zak is a handsome guy! I'm sure you two have a long and wonderful journey ahead. I hope you'll always feel free to come to the board with any questions at all.
I, too, was in 4-H as a teenager. I have a lot of great memories of those times.
