If PETA ever had a rational goal, it has been lost under the control of crazed zealots.
JMHO.
I do everything I can for the local SPCA (which is, of course, funded by donation only .... no tax money), and I know first-hand what a blessing they are for animals in desperate need.
Their intake number went up 49% between 2010 and 2011, and they struggle every day to house and care for these "throwaway" animals until they can be placed.
It makes me sick that groups like PETA cause so many people to look askance at all animal orgs.
MHO is that if we all look in our own local areas, we'll find the REAL rescue people .... the people who take in surrendered animals, feed them and care for them and make them as adoptable as possible, and work tirelessly to find them homes.
Our training club helps with fostering, and I know what an amazing job this local SPCA does at placing these animals. I know from two decades of up-close experience.
Please don't allow such groups as PETA to sour you on all of them.

I think you can rest easy. Every animal lover I know seems to realize that, for PETA, advocating for animals is merely a political agenda and a vehicle for anarchy.
As we have seen right here in this forum, true love for animals shines through like a beacon, while other agendas and motives are almost always obvious.
