As some read from the training tread my super mare broke her left front coffin bone.
I just got her in december and she was my next Grand Prix prospect and I was hoping to compete her for the 2018 World Equestrian Games.
She is tunring 5yo next month is 1200# and 16.2hh. She is your typical chestnut warmblood mare.
The accident is a freak paddock accident she was fine when she went out and could not walk when I went to get her for a ride.
She was just standing there but when I got close I could see her leg shaking and when she steped forward she almost buckle to the ground. As soon as I was able to grab the phone I called the vets. None of the 3 were anwsering!
Finally one called me back saying that he was 5min from my place. All this was about 30min but it felt really long.
This is the inital x-ray thanks to digital x-rays no waiting for the results.
The day 11 x-rays were wrost then I was hoping for. My leg specialist did them.
The next set should be in may. Now taking care of her is not easy. She does not do queit too well. She eat her leg warps if they are not treated with soap or hot pepper and tape. He has 5 meals of grain feed as all her meds cannot be given together.
She has isoxsuprine for blood flow to her feet, di calcium phosphate for bone building, a new type of glucosamine, some tranq to keep her feet still, regumate cause her heat cycles are very upsetting. On top of that she gets HA Legend IV injection weekly.
We are thinking of trying PRP (platlet rich plasma) but not sure yet as the vet is looking into studies for bone repaire.
I keep a log of observations, like her foot was radiating heat untill day 12 then it got just a bit warm on day 13. It must have been the first time that I called my vet because my horse foot was not hot.
She is still very lame on stall rest with her barshoe and sof pour pad. She is to be on full stall rest for the next 3 to 4 month at least. Full recovery chances are at 60%. I am now debating breeding her or bumming a horse from a friend to show but I can only do one of the two.
Sorry to hear that, a friends advanced event horse broke his coffin bone from slapping a concrete aisle wile cross tied, his fx was not displaced, was put in a bottle cap shoe and went into work a year later with no difficulty. Hope your mare heals fine and strong and uneventfully.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
