Jodi Moen Webboard User Reg: 12-28-2010 Posts: 799 Loc: USA Offline	Amber has apparently really strong urine because the lawn is polka dotted with urine spots, I think I have heard of a product that can change the urine so it doesnt burn the grass. Does anyone know the name or if it works? My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.

(It's actually nitrogen, BTW, as opposed to burning, that causes the discoloring.) She's a female, too, and squatting and peeing in one spot is more concentrated than spraying or streaming over a wider area. You could always have her go to the same area and confine the discoloration, though. And make sure she's drinking plenty of water. You could back off on the nitrogen fertilizer in a corner of the yard and lead her to that corner. Also water it well. Others may have better ideas.

The 'nitrogen" in dog urine is ammonia which is also a base, not an acid so using lime as many do isn't productive. IF you see the dog peeing, a quick rinse with the hose does as much as anything else. old dogs LOVE to learn new tricks

In Minnesota where it is USUALLY raining or snowing, abundant moisture, I rarely have urine burn on my country lawn. But last year, when we had drought, there were tons of yellow spots. I think you need to really douse the area and I felt bad standing there with a hose running for 5 minutes, it's a waste of water. I eventually trained him to go in one are and covered it with some mulch. Then the area would get a good soaking when I put the sprinkler on and I never noticed an odour. I've heard that pea gravel works well too. Don't complain....TRAIN!!!
