Sometimes the truth of the matter is you may just have to tell a 13 month old to leave it 867 times a day.
I personally had to use 231 "leave it"s, "look"s, and "NO"s in a twenty minute wait at the vet's office this morning, and she's almost 5yo. I had the full attention of every dog there BUT Sadie!
"Leave it" has to have a consequence. My Rott would graze like that too, given the chance. Once he know's you mean "Leave it" he won't be so interested in going back to all the eating. You have to interupt the munching with the command and a correction.
The reason I don't think he's doing it to get a reaction from me is because when I say drop it, he drops it but he gives me this look like "come on man, really?" Maybe I'm reading him wrong though.
Betty, has vomitted several times from eating that type of stuff. I guess he doesn't associate it with what he's eaten. Or maybe it doesn't bother him enough to make him stop.
Steve, I think I'm going to just have him on the prong wether we're training or not and give some corrections with the leave it command for a while and see if that helps.
