Do you think a reasonable relationship can be maintained with a dog if it becomes mostly an outdoor dog? I'm out for at least 6 hrs each day.
He's been inside since we got him at 14 wks. I'd like him to move to the garage, at least until the mud season ends. What do you think?
I think as long as you're spending several hours a day with him it should be fine. Just make sure he's in a place where he can't self entertain/get into trouble.
Betty, the two GSDs I have now are outside 24/7. All of the working terriers I've had were house dogs. I see absolutely NO difference in the bond between outside dogs and inside dogs. As Mara mentioned above it's about time spent with them and making sure they can't get into trouble.
My two GSDs are still more interested in me then they are one another and they are ALWAYS together.
Just spending time with you for 6 hrs a day is probably more time then many with house dogs.
Even if the dog just follows you around and gets the occasional scratch behind the ear. I see far more then that between you and your dogs.
