I have only trained 1 dog to do a blind search, so am far from an expert, but here goes. Let me begin by saying I am NOT a fan of e-collars, and watched a dog get ruined by using one to train the blind search using a different method. Now, I did use a e-collar on my male. The blinds were always all set up. The helper stood on the end of the field, between blinds one and two. My dog was sent around blind 1, called to me, had to sit and then sent to the helper for a bite. We worked adding 1 blind at a time for weeks. If he messed up, he was called to me and had to go back and start all over again. He learned that he had to search all the blinds I sent him to and return to me when called. He does a great and fast search. One way out of many. CH

I have taught all my dogs the blind search using a toy. They have to have good prey drive for this method.. but it is easy and fast..I start very close to the blind.. dog is on a leash. I walk with the dog around the blind and place my ball at the inside corner of the blind..so the dog can't see it from the field.. I go back to the starting place..which is no more than a couple feet from the blind.. I tell her to "get it"..she has no choice but to go around get her ball and then she comes for play. I add distance slowly.. I don't add the helper in until she can do all 6 fast and tight for the toy.. Once she can do that.. then I start with the dog pretty close to blind five.. helper is standing behind me..I send her.. if she doesn't go..she is on a leash.. i just bring her back and start her again.. when she goes..she gets a bite.
