Heiland is almost 5 months old and I am wondering if that is too young to teach him to catch a Frisbee in mid-air. Is it too much of a jolt to his joints?
He is 65 lbs and lands hard as he still is not all that well coordinated.
If it's OK, does anyone have a good link to a video of how to train him?
Ohh ty Connie - I really enjoyed the last article especially and it's very doable with Heiland.
I got the glow in the dark (LED lit) from LB but I have been too cautious to use it.
Now I will use it as a treat container for a bit and then play a game that doesn't require he jumps or twists.
I have to keep coming up with fun stuff to do as I don't want to be always training him to a command - he is so much fun to just play with. The real training can wait (besides OB) as I want him to just enjoy his health and use his energy up in a positive manner.
Conclusion on joints should be kept to a minimum until growth plates close at around 2yrs of age on a German shepherd, especially a large boned or over sized one or really any large breed dog for that matter.

Probably a good age to keep in mind here where so many have these breeds.
Double whammy .... large dog, and breed that has late skeletal maturity. Many dogs here.
Just as info to you, Ziva being a large breed is not allowed on stairs neither to jump until a minimum of 15 months....and no running for long period either so no chassing ball in field only in our little 60 m2 garden.....I would think this applies to your GSD pup aswell.
