If you read my previous post, we have a temporary puppy, 3 months old maybe.
We allowed him to meet our 4 yo old rottie through the crate for awhile after he had been here almost a week and was settled. They both did well, puppy laid down in crate, adult sniffed and walked away.
We let them together in the yard last night for a few minutes. Puppy is not obnoxious at all, and our dog sniffed him a little and kept coming back to us and we would praise him. After about 3 minutes, our dog seemed like he wanted to try to engage him in play, and not wanting to stress the puppy too much, we decided to end it right there.
Our dog was dragging a leash so my husband just picked up the leash, and I picked up the puppy who was laying on his back pretty much under our dogs nose.
My question is. Is there a better way to end a session together than just whisking one of them off the ground? J
Thanks Connie. The puppy is just starting on the leash, and I haven't been pulling on it. Not sure if a treat would be enough to make him want to leave another dog. If we get the opportunity to do it again, we will try it.
The puppy just got dropped off with a prospective home for a test run. So if all goes well we will have a really awesome home for him. Or we will have him back tomorrow night. Fingers crossed.
Ideally the puppy should be leash trained. If not and it starts throwing a typical, first time on a leash puppy fit you better know what type of reaction the older dog will have.
Gott the puppy back. He did great, but the very old 10 yo Great Dane was so upset by his presence that she was throwing up and just laying around depressed. And at her age they don't want to cause her that much stress. Back to square one.

You'll do great, Julie. One setback having nothing to do with you or the pup.
