I have a 6 1/2 month old gsd who loves to pull the wires off our satellite dish(this is one of those old large dishes). We have tried taping them out of reach, moving the wire and he is still pulling them. Our fear is he will pull them out and touch a hot wire.
We have toys in the yard and we are out with him during the day as often as possible once we are home from work but just the fact that he's a puppy he's got a lot of energy.
During part of the day he is in a yard that is about 12X15 and the balance of the day he is out in the bigger yard running around. The dish is in the bigger yard.
Any thoughts on protecting him from the dish? Any type of toys that might keep his attention?
Put a fence around the dish base. How elaborate it will have to be has to do more with him. Some dogs don't mess with the garden green wire stuff, others may need something stronger.
I used to think it was silly when people fenced in their trees... now I know why they do it.
What about the no bite spray they have out for just this type of situation.
I've even had people recommend hot sauce or vinger. Neither stopped my boy from chewing and pulling up my freshly planted rose bushes thorns and all, chewed it down like a goat.
Until I caught him and discplined him and fence the rose bush off. Now I have pretty mini rose bush and a dog that let things grow sometimes.
Bring him in sometimes help.
Hi Sue, Can you just encase the wires in PVC pipe or electrical conduit, which can be purchased at any hardware store? Take the temptaion out of the way. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Whoever will only draw conclusions from the eminence of his own particular point of view, will obtain a distorted picture.-v. Stephanitz
Sue,First..Is your dog obedience trained? If he/she is..then the dog has to know you are the boss.If the pup isn't trained...Start there..utilizing the 12x15 more.If he is trained..and you are the boss.Ask yourself how much time do you spend with the dog..one on one...or do you just shift him from one area to another? Dogs get bored and need companionship of some kind...on a consistent level.Given the fact that he is going after what is near to your house..he may be trying to tell you something but maybe not.Yes INDEED protect him from any wiring..you can rig something. When he is loose in the larger yard..where does he leave the toys you do have for him?Are they scattered or does he put them all in one spot..Where???
