We've been going to a local Schutzhund club and she's doing really well. They've been helping me polish up her focused heel and trouble shooting a few issues we were having. She's also participated in bite training twice and surprised everyone with how well she did her first time out. The trainer thinks she's going to be able to get her IPO1 no problem!
However, the brag is about her in general. Since we've been stepping up our 'game' with training and really getting her enthusiastic about learning and working, she's been a dream boat dog.
Today I took her to the pet store for a bath and she was very excited about the bath (she loves water). When we were done she came out of the bathing room and snatched a dog bed off a shelf and tried to push it at me so I'd play tug with her! She was enthusiastically mauling it to pieces (I paid for it, although it won't last long here since the dogs aren't allowed beds for a very good reason) because she was over threshold with her excitement. I put her in a down and she watched me pick up the beds she knocked over. But then, some random stranger decided that he wasn't going to walk around her (he had plenty of room). He decided to walk OVER her, which I was surprised by. The most surprising thing though? She didn't even bother with looking at him. She was watching me to see if I'd grab one of those dog beds and play tug with her. She held her down like a champ despite some random dude basically straddling her body. I've never worked with her during a distraction like that, that was all her.
So happy with this little dog. She'll be 15 months this week and she's a joy to live with. Calm and well behaved in the house, enthusiastic and smart during training, loves to accompany me for running errands around town. I'm in love
