I have a 3 month old German Working Line GSD puppy. He is a pretty uncontrolable puppy. He bites and chews anything he sees. You cannot even pet him or play with him because he bites. He bit me and my wife plenty of times and sometimes it gets pretty bloody. He sometimes plays with his toys, but he prefers hands and feet. Please help me stop this. I've tried pushing him away, saying no, closing his mouth, and twice I even had to smack him on the face (lightly).
Thank you.
Boy does this sound familiar. I've been there, actually was just there 3 months ago when the pup I have now was that age. What you have is a dog with tons of prey drive, and if your planning on working him, good for you. If you ARE planning on making a sport dog out of him, STOP smacking him. You may kill his drive. If your not going to work him, stop smacking anyway as it sounds he sees this as rough play. Either way, redirect this mouthiness to toys, try a couple of different toys until you find one he likes. A lot of people are probably going to tell you to ignore him, this may or may not work. In my case it didnt. My pup just bit me from behind. When you absolutely can't redirect this behavior onto a toy, after a few firm "no's", directly and firmly put him in his crate for a few. No, this doesnt mean hes always going to associate the crate with punishment. This is what worked for me, hope it helps.
