Here are two videos of my clciker work with my dogs. I am working on some basic behaviours but trying to improve my clicker skills and making my dogs better at OFFERING new behaviours.
Really nice! I love seeing how fast marker trained dogs pick up on new training. I do have one question - with Sadha, what was the reasoning behind marking before he got to the target? I understand wanting to get him on track again but, after he demonstrated an understanding of going all the way to the target a couple of times, I probably would have held out and marked when he made it to the target.
Hi mara, I did that after I increased the distance too soon and he got confused and started offering Sit, down, Stand, backup etc... then he did the heel behaviour and then he remembered the touch pad... since I had lost out on reinforcement opportunities , I marked his action of just going to the basin . It was just a guilt trip on my part.
Thank You Bob. I am learning more and more about clicker training and how nuanced and powerful it can be if "practiced" properly.
I have made so many mistakes and I realize them bit by bit now.
The great thing about marker training is the worst thing that happens is the dog gets a free treat because of handler error.
That's a huge difference from getting an ill timed correction. that car create a confused dog and often loose trust in the handler.
