I was walking Ambi in our regular conservation area yesterday, there is a small overgrown field with puckerbrush, and all sorts of deep undergrowth in there. I usually play fetch with her as we go around.
As we walked past the field Ambi alerted on a spot in about 20 feet, and I heard rustling. She rushed in before I could react, I was thinking fox, raccoon, coyote. Then I saw something gray leap forward a couple of feet, Amber was already in, made contact and I recovered enough to call her. She came right away. Then a very large red tail hawk arose from under the brush and flew off. I never suspected that, don't know why it was in the brush unless it was hunting but the big thing is Amber came! I don't know if she's maturing, or what but she has her listening ears on almost all of the time now, interesting that her response to wildlife is completely different than her response to dogs...

My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
How cool is that? We're seeing the same thing in Bailey. Now that she's turning five years old, she's a whole lot more controlled also. I'm absolutely convinced it's a sign of how well you laid the groundwork for her obedience training in addition to her maturity. This is when all that training and proofing pay off and become so rewarding.
Thank you Greg, we're working on it. Other than her reactivity which is improving we are having fun. Obediance has been a challenge but I'm rereading a lot of material, as the problem seems to be me, not Amber.
I think I somehow got this topic in the wrong catagory...
