So happy to tell everyone that since my christmas money is on mah! pocket and the sales have gone wild for the holidays! i purchased playing tug dvd, advanced motivation and im going to buy some tugs!!.
I want to ask if i should buy the intermediate tug set or should i buy 2 sets of same tugs: ie 2 firehose and 2 synthetics.
Since some good friends are coming to mexico to spend holidays with their families i was hoping that i can buy the tugs so they can bring them to me, and that way i do not have to wait for the customs....Last time i ordered some books from another page and they took a month and a week to arrive. D:
Another thing i wanted to share, im working Havanna on trusting me and for her to relax on our one on one walks, should i stop when i sense she is tense and work with food or toys so she can relax? Im asking because yesterday on the walk a dog was barking on a roof and she was all tail up and really stressed, i sat down across the street, grab some treats and give them to her slooowly while i pet her. After 4 or 5 min she stop panting and even wanted to play with the balls ( she jumped into my leg pouch to grab them) so i pull them out and make her play-jump a bit for them. That seemed a bit better than the usual walk aways as quickly as i can that i read in some other forum...
My choice would be to start doing simple obedience with the dog and rewarding the food or toys.
One problem that could pop up with offering food while petting her is the possibility of the dog associating the reward for being tense.
A dog associates the reward or correction with the last thing it did. In your case that is the dog tensing up.
By going into obedience mode the dog's mind is redirected to obedience and is "earning" the reward for good behavior. Right now it could associate the food and petting as a reward for the tensing up.
Totally agree with Bob, my dog used to do the same if she heard a dog in a house or fenced yard. I would tell her nope when she started to get tense and then redirect the tenseness into something else, she loves to climb so a walk on a walk wall, practicing some quick obediance (all within earshot) had her relaxing and unstressed fairly quickly. She is virtually non reactive to dogs she can hear but not see now. Just remember it takes time. Don't get frustrated if she has setbacks, they will happen. Good luck.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
Hi Milanka,
My favorite tug is the 15 inch red nylon tubular tug. It is easy to hold on to, and the perfect size for my GSD.
I have tried them all. The firehose tug makes her gums bleed, the leather gets gooey and slimy, the jute lasted about 3 sessions and unraveled (she loved to bite the jute the best, though)
This is just my opinion based on experience with my dog only.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the tips i will go with OB then some play/cookies! Today we went to a big lake and she ran like a freak and try to hunt the birds... she was really happy to finally get some off leash running! she only dod not come once and it was because she was eating horse poop.... that was my bad! but hell she enjoyed herself!
